One game i want to mention is Mirrors Edge, because I've never played a game so unique since Portal. But unlike Portal it's kind of hard to unconditionally love it.

It's a game that did a lot of things right while systematically did a lot of them wrong.

Firstly the good points, such as the art style of the game. Lighting was a major factor in the game and it's some of the best I've seen in a game. The city scape was good, but it was the train station and night scenes that really took my breath away.

The soundtrack, which again is some of the best I've heard in many years. Not the vocal track, i mean that ones ok but it was the ambient music that really made me fall in love with it. Listen to this if you don't believe me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moAanVikQJM

The lighting and the music set the tone for a very soft and absorbing game, you would feel yourself be overcome with beauty every time it chimed in.

The controls? Well what can i say. They are OK, near from perfect but do-able.

And the puzzle aspect was perfect, but i will get to that in a second.

Now the bad points.

The plot, is one of the most convoluted and confusing I've ever experienced. By the end of it you never get any answers, or even know whats going on. Nor do you care, at least i didn't.

The atmosphere, at times is perfect. One part i remember vividly is when you are in a construction site and all you have to do is climb to the top. The music starts playing and the lighting shines brightly. It was incredible.

But then it's ruined by the plot, or the guy talking to you, or someone shooting. And thats my biggest complaint about this game, for me personally it should of been a puzzle game like Portal. Going through the city, through building's with good music. It didn't need this over the top plot and crap voice acting.

I hope the second one has more puzzle moments.

The cut scenes sucked too.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the cutscenes. I kept wondering if some pink-haired broad was going to pop out and start going on about "buy print quote".

Anyway, Mirror's edge was odd for me. I was so pleased by how different it was from other games that had been released on the current gen so far. But, once I put it down and moved on to other things, I couldn't go back to it. The two major problems were that the controls felt clunky and that the world just seemed so empty. Still a great memory though.

Here's to DICE making a sequel with better structure!

Also i heard a rumor they may be bringing Monster Hunter (the PC version) to the Xbox 360. If this is true, i can't wait. I've always wanted to play the Monster Hunter series but only one we really have in the UK is the three Monster Hunter games on PSP. I don't have a PSP and don't have three friends who own PSP's. Let alone one of the games. There is one on the Wii, no idea what thats like but again, i don't have a Wii or three friends with a Wii. So the Xbox verson is perfect for me, but i might invest in the PSP version as well at some point. Also for the portable version of BlazBlue is they release that here.

Also if the board got popular enough to warrant a gaming board, this picture would make an AMAZING banner. Kind of want to make one now. NO Emee! Stop making boards >:C

I just beat borderlands with a friend. It was alright, nothing too special. I think it would be more fun with more people though.

I also just played some LAN starcraft with a bunch of friends...good times, it takes me back.

I haven't had all that much time for gaming though... :c

Borderlands is good, but VERY repetitive i thought. But i did like the humor and the selection of weapons. My biggest complaint is that i was hoping it was going to be a dungeon Crawler but there really wasn't many "dungeons" usually huge open spaces. I would of liked a few more buildings to go into.

Having a go at Suikoden I right now; trying to perfect it with all 108 stars in my party.

And in other news, I picked-up Borderlands, for a nice diversion, and I've gotta say, disappointed to the max. Repetitive gameplay, and absolutely nothing driving the plot forward than "kill X-amount of this," "find these things," and "talk to 'X'" quests, and the annoying robot-guy in Firestone; I was expecting so much more...

it gets a bit better than that later in the game, but that robot is always extremely annoying. And later in the game he keeps telling you there are new jobs posted at every opportunity it gets and which are always really shitty.

That's reassuring; I mean, I still have faith in the game, at least to keep playing, and give it a longer shot, but I haven't turned on my PS3 - yeah, I know - in the past two days, because of some problem with my model (Something about leap-years, and the units fucking up or something...) and as a result I've been playing Suikoden, Wild Arms, and Final Fantasy Tactics.

What do you guys think about Super Street Fighter IV? I bought the original literally days before I heard about the remake, so I was pretty peeved off. But it seems that they added enough content to make it new. Plus, there's this character:

One game I really want to play is Tengai Makyo/Far East Of Eden.

An RPG series that started on the PC Engine. Never left Japan, and it's a shame. Because it's main theme is that it's based in America. So It's a very stereotypical view of America from Japanese view, for some reason thats always made me interested. It's also spawned it's own side series and even a fighting game.

I've been playing some games lately.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

First than all, i'd like to mention it's not the first FE game i've played, nor the first TRPG game.

The main flaw i found is the difficulty is just unfair (I'm not using the Battle Save feature because then i'd be outright cheating):
the map is more often than not too small and thus every unit can walk most of it in a heartbeat, making weak units easy targets for surprise buttsexs courtesy of unexpected enemy reinforcements. And there're some important units which can die in a single normal enemy attack.

But that wouldn't be such a big problem if the combat's outcome didn't rely on LUCK.
You see, even if you used the best possible strategy, criticals and misses will screw your game plan, considering the defeat of a character means either Game Over or said character dieing for real and never coming back.

So in the end whatever tactic you use you're forced to just pray that the enemy doesn't streamroll over any of your units.
And the completely unexpected enemy reinforcements sure don't help.

On the other hand there is the cast of characters. Some old (since it's the sequel of Path of Radiance), some new.
And while some of them have charisma, the game fails hard at character development and thus most of the times you just DON'T CARE about the characters at all. That sucks.

The graphics and dialogue moments look cheap And the story is just as uninspiring as ever, the soundtrack is forgettable. It screams 'Rushed generic sequel'.

No wonder Nintendo hasn't released another FE game for home consoles.

this thread reminded me about 2d platformer that was still in development, with furry character, hack'n'slash, pretty graphics, smooth gameplay, from what i've seen on trailers. i think it was supposted to be out on x360 and pc. anybody have a clue how is that game called?
>> No. 1076 ID: 4fa2a9
Sounds like Dust: An Elysian Tail. It's XBLA only, and it's supposed to come out sometime this year.

The animation and environments look great, but the characters' faces... throw me off a bit. I can't be the only one who feels this way...
